Shack & Sandy with their son, Seth.  (December ‘06).  Seth is currently in the Army serving in Iraq.

Shack and Sandy Shacklett purchased Twin View Farm in March 2007, but they are no strangers to the place.  In November of 1988, after having owned and operated a smaller boarding facility in Chugiak, Shack and Sandy bought Twin View Farm, the first time. Within six months, the facility was in full swing with horse boarding. They were also breeding and showing Quarter Horses. Then, in 1992, Shack was one of 250 people RIFT (reduction in force termination) from ARCO, Alaska.  Having talked about going overseas before, they thought this would be a good time.  The plan was to go overseas, work for 5 to 7 years, come back and retire.  Almost everything was sold, including the farm and off to Saudi Arabia they went, where Shack had a job as a Mechanical Trainer.

Things did not work out quite like they had planned.  They probably would have stayed, even though it was not a great place for Sandy, Shack had it pretty easy, but there was some misconception over who was going to pay for their son, Seth’s school.  Seth would have had to go to a private school there.  At the time the position was offered, the recruiter said that when Seth was of school age the company would pay for it, but when the time came, the company said no.  So we came back and put Seth in school here.  It was like starting all over again.

Not too long after the Shackletts sold Twin View Farm, it was closed as a boarding facility, but since their return, the stable has been refurbished and re-opened.  Horse boarding is again being offered, and horse breeding is still being done, but now the Alaska Equi-sharing program has been added to the services. “It was a little more serious the first time around,” Sandy Shacklett says, “this time we want to have a little more fun.”
