Mark and Terry Williams built and named Twin View Farm. They named it for the beautiful view of
Twin Peaks. Originally they planned to build a house with a separate garage that had stalls on one
end. Then their goals expanded. The foundation was laid for the combination
garage/barn. The house was built and the exterior finished,
but the interior had to wait. Now their focus was on
building an 80’ X 160’ indoor arena with an adjoining 17 stall barn. At the time, this was the largest indoor
arena in Alaska. The arena and barn was built and finished, but unfortunately the Williams were unable to finish the house before they left. Shack
and Sandy Shacklett bought Twin View Farm in November of ’88. They had the barn to full capacity in six months. The barn was mostly finished, but they had
to do quite a bit of work on the house.
The summer before they left, Shack installed an automatic water system
at the barn. You can see more about
them on their page. In
October 1992 Bruce and Marcia Boyd bought Twin View Farm and changed the name
to Twin View Horse Park. A year or so
later, they closed the barn as a commercial facility and kept it for their
own private use. While there they did
some very nice improvements, like leveling and working the newly cleared area
into a ‘smooth-as-glass’ pasture and installing some heavy duty fencing made
out of telephone poles and pipe. The
kitchen was remodeled and a huge deck added, too. Bruce had also taken part of the barn and
converted it into a workshop. The
Shackletts bought the place back in March of 2007. The immediately went to work rebuilding the
barn they knew and loved, only better!
The workshop was taken down and stalls re-installed, a fresh coat of
paint with a little pizzaz was added.
The automatic water system was put back into service, the indoor arena
was re-surfaced, the old paddock fencing was taken into the indoor arena and
used as a rail, new paddock fencing was installed, the front pasture was made
into an outdoor arena and a round-pen
was added. There was even a small
apple orchard planted. While
maintenance and repairs will always be needed, other improvements are also in
the plans, . “It’s good to be back,”
Sandy states. |
